What We Krave

Monday, February 8, 2010 - by Onetta Bellamy

There is no question that Atlanta is a Mecca for all things urban music. With some of our favorite music artist hailing from the “A,” we’ve become accustomed to music that has a great sound and music that undoubtedly gets us to the dance floor. The ladies of “Krave,” are the latest music sensation from Atlanta. Backed by the music industry force we come to know as DeVyne Stephens, “Krave” follows in the footstep of other talented artists from Atlanta who has a great sound and whose music surely makes you move.

Chanel Ross, Jasmine “Jazzy’ Kearse, and Shanquilla “Shan Q” Robinson make up the ladies of “Krave.” After meeting in high school and realizing that they all shared the same ambition and passion for music, they embarked on a journey that would prove to be life changing.

A Word For My Sistas: There have been female groups that have come and gone. With that said, what makes “Krave” different from other female groups?

Krave: We bring a different energy. We have great chemistry and respect for one another. We’re about empowering females, though we’re not male bashers. We’re not your typical urban group. We like to try new things and test the waters.

A Word For My Sistas: What can people expect from your self-titled debut album?

Krave: There will be a mixture of songs on the album. We like different sounds, so we try to infuse those sounds into our music. We have a song on the album that sounds a little country and a song with an east coast vibe. We would say that our songs are like the diary of “Krave.” Every song puts you in a certain environment and takes you to a certain place. We have love songs. We have songs about confidence. We like to keep it up-tempo because we’re a young and fresh group. But we touch on a lot of issues.

A Word For My Sistas: Who are some people that you collaborated with on the album?

Krave: We collaborated with Akon, Nelly, and Twista on the album. Nelly is coming hard on this album. We have some more collaborations, but we’ll keep it a secret. You have to buy the album!

A Word For My Sistas: There’s no secret that you’re being compared to the group “TLC.” How do you feel about that comparison?

Krave: We get that all the time. We’re three females from Atlanta. We have two singers and a rapper and we have a lot of energy. But we really want to create our own lane for Krave; so people can say someday, “You remind us of Krave.”

A Word For My Sistas: Let’s talk about these blogs. Are you concerned about what bloggers may say about you and your music?

Krave: We can’t really say yes or no. Just as long as our family and friends know what the truth is. And to be honest, if it’s good or bad, it’s funny because we don’t even see ourselves in the light to even be talked about. So you can say, “Oh they don’t sound good or they sound good or they aren’t a good group,” and it’s still a shocker to us that anyone would say anything about us at all. It’s an honor for us whether it’s good or bad. It’s free promotion.

A Word For My Sistas: What do you hope this year will bring?

Krave: A lot of traveling and a lot of success; but more importantly, a #1 album.

Krave’s self-titled debut album is expected to be released this summer. To learn more about the talented ladies of Krave and to hear more of their music, visit www.myspace.com/kraveworldwide.
