I Got Money To Blow?

Monday, February 8, 2010 - by Onetta Bellamy

I got money to blow. Well, actually I don’t, but rapper Drake apparently does. But for most of us, especially during this economic down turn, the money that we do have, we ain’t trying to blow. We are trying to keep our bills paid and hopefully have a little “something, something,” left over each month to put towards our savings.

So, here is 3+1=4 saving tips for those who don’t have money to blow.

1. Keep driving pass the drive thru. Trust me; I know it seems so much easier after a long day at work, when your children need to be fed, to do a drive by at your nearest McDonalds. But if you find yourself spending money eating out almost every night, think about the money you can save if you simply cut back. Limit eating out to just once a week. Fridays are usually good!

2. Just throw it in the bag. Just throw your lunch in a brown bag that is. Leave Chipotles, Friday’s, Chili’s, and Applebee’s alone during lunch hours. If you are spending $10 for lunch X 5 days a week, that’s $50. Hello!! That’s $200 a month. Need I say more?

3. Ask yourself, do I really need another outfit, another pair of shoes? We love to shop. I get it. But if you have invested more money into the clothes and shoes in your closet than in your own opportunity to financial empowerment, then HOUSTON, I THINK WE HAVE A PROBLEM…..

4. Slash the cost of some of your bills. You just may have a million stations with your satellite dish or with your cable plan, but do you really have to have all those channels? Stick to the basics and put the extra cash that you will save in the bank. Shawty what you think? Besides, the only channel you really need is HGTV (Ok, I love the HGTV channel).
