A Word For My Sistas
I recently came across this video of the late Malcolm X asking very poignant questions. Rather you choose to believe it or not, self-hate is still alive and well. But not only does it thrive within our community, self-hate crosses cultural boundaries as so many strive to achieve society’s European standard of beauty.
Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair?
Who taught you to hate the color of your skin?
Who taught you to hate the shape of your nose and the shape of your lips?
Who taught you to hate yourself from the top of your head; to the soles of your feet?
Who taught you to hate your own kind?
Who taught you to hate the race that you belong to? So much so that you don’t want to be around each other.
Who taught you to hate being what God gave you?
Please watch the video below in its entirety. Towards the end of the video, Malcolm X shares his sentiments about how Black women should be valued.

Very powerful message given…today I do agree that many of our black women are disrespected…but many of them disrepect themselves by the way they carry themselves and how they present themselves…you first should look at yourself and how you see yourself it reflect how others see you and view you.
I’ve been a self taught person for many years and many things I thought I knew was right was wrong…I’ve learned along the way about loving me and how to love me…I learned later in life how to dress, talk, and carry myself around others who are always watching me to see what I will do and how I will act. The end of Malcolm X video holds a strong message to me and for me about me as a Black Woman and Black Women in general.
Peace,
