Let’s Wait Awhile
“Let’s wait awhile, before it’s too late. Let’s wait awhile, our love will be great. Let’s wait awhile, before we go too far.” I know that society’s attitude towards sex and one’s own sexuality is quite different than it was just over a decade ago. Sexual expression can’t be avoided. We can’t escape it. It’s simply everywhere. Listen for it on the radio airwaves, see it on the music videos, and witness it first hand on television. Sexual expression can be found everywhere.
Often times, we adopt to the behaviors that is deemed as acceptable within our own culture. Being highly sexual beings and being very adventurous when it comes to sex has become more acceptable in this day in time then ever before. And what’s wrong with that you may wonder? Nothing at all! Truth be told, sex is a part of life. Most of us have or will have sex at some point in our lives.
“When we get to know each other. And we’re both feeling much stronger. Then let’s try to talk it over. Let’s wait awhile longer.” -Janet Jackson “Let’s Wait Awhile”
The message that is seemingly overlooked and not often conveyed when it comes to sex is the message of abstinence. The reality is this; you don’t have to be in a rush to have sex. It’s ok to practice abstinence. It’s ok to wait awhile.
What we find is that we make too many compromises in relationships. Some of us venture into situations where we feel like we have to have sex in order to be loved. Or some of us think that if we don’t have sex right away, then maybe the man of our dreams will move on to the next girl. If he is not willing to wait and progress the relationship on your terms, then let him go! He wasn’t the one for you in the first place.
It’s important that you always recognize your self-worth. It’s important to remember that you are worth the wait. It’s ok to practice abstinence. It’s ok to wait awhile. Please pass this message on to our young girls.
